Entertainer's Back Yard - Renewed and Refreshed7 Photos
This project was originally installed in 2011. Since then, the client has done an extensive residential remodel and wanted to refresh the space. The original layout remained except adding one more poured-in-place concrete pad and removing some of the existing driveway concrete. Everything but the remaining trees, hedge along the garage wall, and the raised vegetable garden were left intact. We needed to open up the space as the original hedge had served its purpose to screen the next door neighbor's residence. The original tree has grown beautifully to screen the building rooftops and provide shade and movement in the space. By changing out the hedge with a dwarf tree variety, the feeling of space will be maintained even when the trees mature. They will no longer obscure the view of the large tree and keep an "open" feeling to the space.
A new poured-in-place concrete pad was added to the existing pads along with river pebbles. A portion of the existing concrete driveway was removed and replaced with a continuation of the existing decomposed granite pathway leading to the garden.
View from the residence, with a now mature tree providing shade and movement, new plantings to open up the space and provide contrast with an upright hedge against free flowing plants providing year-round interest
Same plant layout as original project; new plants using even less water providing year-round interest, sages will bloom in the autumn, the aloes in winter through early spring, the hedges year-round with fragrant flowers and the tree blooms from late summer-fall
